The VeChainThor blockchain relies on Authority Masternodes (AMs) for transaction validation, following the Proof of Authority (PoA) mechanism. An AM is a network server that manages nodes and keeps a comprehensive copy of the blockchain to authenticate and produce blocks. The network incentivizes AMs with VTHO tokens as a reward for maintaining the blockchain’s integrity, contributing to the VeChain ecosystem, and participating in the governance of the platform. These tokens represent transaction fees on the VeChainThor blockchain. The AM generating the block collects 30% of the VTHOs used up by transactions in each block, while the rest, 70% of the VTHOs, are incinerated. Notably, AMs on the VeChainThor blockchain do not compete for block generation; a random algorithm determines the block producer.
VET tokens are the keys to accessing the VeChainThor blockchain. Therefore, possession of VET tokens inherently leads to the creation of VTHO. Simply put, VET token holders are rewarded with VTHO and can freely navigate the blockchain, provided the actions take up less VTHO than what has been generated.
