How to Create and Set Up Bitfinex API Key

In this guide, we'll show you how to create, configure, and connect your Bitfinex API key to the Bitsgap platform.

Bitsgap allows you to trade on multiple cryptocurrency exchanges from a single interface, offering tools that enhance trading capabilities beyond what is available on individual exchanges.

API keys are required for interacting with exchanges like Bitfinex. They ensure secure, limited access to your account, preventing unauthorized withdrawals or deposits.

Steps to Create and Set Up the Bitfinex API Key

1. Log in to Bitfinex:
   First, log into your Bitfinex account, or create one if you don't have an account yet.

2. Go to the API Keys Page:
   From your profile icon in the top-right corner, navigate to the API Keys tab, then click Create New Key.

3. Match API Key Permissions:
   Set the required permissions for your API key as follows:
   • Account Info:
     • Get account fee information (enabled).
     • Edit account information (disabled).
   • Account History:
     • Get historical balances and trade information (enabled).
   • Orders:
     • Get orders and statuses (enabled).
     • Create and cancel orders (enabled).
   • Margin Trading:
     • Get position and margin info (disabled).
     • Claim a position (disabled).
   • Margin Funding:
     • Get funding statuses (disabled).
     • Offer, cancel, and close funding (disabled).
   • Wallets:
     • Get wallet balances and addresses (enabled).
     • Transfer between wallets (disabled).
   • Withdraw:
     • Create a new withdrawal (disabled).
   • IP Access Restrictions:
     • Allow access from any IP (enabled).

4. Label Your API Key:
   Assign a name to your API key (for example, “Bitsgap API”) to help identify it later. Once ready, click [Generate API key].

5. Insert the 2FA Code:
   Enter your 2FA code to authenticate the API key creation, then click [Authenticate].

6. Check Your Email:
   You will receive an email from Bitfinex containing a confirmation link. Open the email and click on the [Create API Key] button to confirm.

7. Copy Your API Key and Secret Key:
   After your API key is generated, copy both the API Key and Secret Key. Store them safely, as the Secret Key will not be visible again once you proceed.

8. Go to Bitsgap > My Exchanges:
   Log into your Bitsgap account and go to the My Exchanges page. Click [Add new exchange] to begin adding Bitfinex.

9. Select Bitfinex Exchange and Enter API Info:
   In the pop-up window, select Bitfinex from the exchange list. Paste your API Key and Secret Key into the appropriate fields, then click [Connect].

10. Connection Check:
    If everything is done correctly, Bitfinex will appear on your list of connected exchanges with a Connected status. Your available trading balance will also be displayed in your Bitsgap account.
